I'm new here too and very interested that at least 2 people with suspected androgenetic alopecia have recently been referred to a dermatologist.
My doctor has refused to refer me to a dermatologist and will not help towards getting a wig, although I did explain that my husband and I are on a low income at present and if I have alopecia we should qualify for something. They have not physically seen me, I've had blood tests but all the consultations have been by telephone.
One female GP actually said that she has two sisters with the same problem and it doesn't bother them! Whilst also saying that she personally isn't affected. She seemed to imply that at my age I shouldn't care about my appearance. This upset me, especially as I'm still of working age.
I don't know whether this lack of support is something to do with services in this county, this area, or just with this GP practice. How can I find out?
